2015: Ogboru endorses Okowa

DELTA -AHEAD of the 2015 general elections in the country, a prominent political leader in Delta State, Chief Julius Ogboru has identified Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as the most capable to pilot the affairs of Delta State among those eying the governorship seat in the state. He noted that Okowa has the pedigree and required experience to govern the oil-rich state.
Chief Ogboru, who made the declaration at Abraka, Ethiope East local government area of Delta State, recently, at the formal inauguration of D-PEACE, a political pressure group championing equity and fairness in the governance ofthe state, said, having painstakingly assessed those being touted as interested in governing the state, he found Okowa to be most eligible in terms of experience, past records of good performance, reach and grassroots connection.
He stressed that Okowa was best suited to give focus leadership to the people of Delta State come 2015, adding that he was totally convinced of Okowa’s credibility, capability and genuine intention for the state, describing Okowa as a humble and God-fearing man, who has continued to identify with the people.
While commending D-PEACE on what he referred to as a bold and noble cause, Chief Ogboru, who was made the patron of the group at the event, endorsed Okowa’s aspiration and pledged to mobilised not only the people of Ethiope East but the entire Delta State to support Okowa’s governorship quest, which he said was in the best interest of the people of the state.
He described Senator Okowa as a very marketable candidate and personality, given his unsullied public service records as a politician, adding that many Deltans and non-Deltans have continued to speak glowingly of him due to his integrity and selfless service.
In his remark, the State Chief Project Coordinator of D-PEACE, Olorogun David Omoru said the group would not relent in its campaign for equity, fairness and enthronement of a Delta Northerner as governor of the state in 2015.
He observed that prominent leaders as Chief E. K. Clark, Senate President, David Mark and former President, Olusegun Obasanjo have lent their voice and support for Delta North to produce the next governor of the state.
He said the choice of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa by D-PEACE was borne out of the fact thatover the years, he had displayed uncommon leadership qualities that had impressed and endeared him to countless Deltans who are desirous of his emergence as governor of the state come 2015.
He said Okowa was singled out because of his political maturity, grassroots reach and detribalised disposition, which makes him acceptable across the three senatorial districts in the state.
Also, the State Chairman of D-PEACE, Dr. Goodnews Agbi, said support for Senator Okowa for the governorship was based primarily on his credibility and antecedents, adding that Okowa had performed creditably in all the public offices he had occupied without blemish. He said he had watched him closely since he was a commissioner before becoming SSG and now a Senator, and was impressed with his performance and general disposition to public office.
Earlier, in his speech, the Coordinator of D-PEACE, Ethiope East local government area chapter, Mr. Martins Jessa, noted that the main objective of the group is to support the cause of equity, farness and justice in the politics of Delta State.
“D-PEACE whole heartedly supports Delta North for the governorship in 2015. And our preferred choice for the position is no other person than Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, aman that has distinguished himself as a true and unassuming leader, who sees public office as opportunity to touch and enrich lives,” Mr. Jessa stated.
Some persons who spoke to newsmen shortly after the inauguration included Engr. Eborka and Mr. Jonathan Onwuka, Secretary and Publicity Secretary of D-PEACE respectively, and also Mr. Kent Okiemute who hailed the massive turn out of people of the area to witness the event, adding that it was a confirmation of their belief and confidence in the cause of D-PEACE for a better Delta State.
Mr. Onwuka described Senator Okowa as a role model, who has continued to demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities and deep intellectual ability, adding that his political ascendancy had been marked by great respect and empowerment of people.
