About the department of Maritime Management

Maritime Management Technology was the first programme in the School of Management Technology. Since 1982, Maritime Management Technology has been offered as an option in the Bachelor of Transport (B.Tech) Transport Management Technology programme. Areas of specialization available to students include; Shipping Management, Maritime Technology and Marine Resource Management. Our philosophy is to create a bridge between management/administration and conventional engineering and technology.

Our department is an appropriate ground for breeding technocrats for the maritime industry, who can give sound advice to management and possess technical know-how but have little knowledge of the management/coordination aspects of the system. Our main objective is to train technocrat-managers who can effectively manage the maritime sub sector of the Nigerian economy. We also aim to provide world-class, cost-effective training for young Nigerians in line with global best practices as well as produce graduates capable of making effective contributions at the lower/middle management cadre to the planning, policy making and management of projects in the Nigerian maritime industry and contributing to the overall development of the sector through joint research, seminars and workshop activities with national and international organizations.
